Running Blues

I went running this morning, despite feeling too tired. I'm determined to get back into shape and try to fit excercising in to this crazy summer. I decided to run a shorter distance than normal but to try to go faster than normal. I went 2.5 miles and was surprised and excited to find that I did it a little over a minute faster than I normally go. (Meaning a minute faster per mile). When Ryan got home from taking Cameron to swim practice I was excited to tell him my good news. I had really pushed myself hard and was feeling proud. His reaction to my average time per mile ... "That's terrible."

Okay, I admit, I am probably the slowest runner on the planet so an improvement for me doesn't look like much. But it was still an improvement. I went ahead and signed up for the Speedy Spaniard 10k this morning, trying to be hopeful. I know I'm in pretty bad shape but hopefully in the next month I can get back into things so I'll at least make it to the finish line. And who knows, maybe I can still get faster, maybe.

I'm not even brave enough to attempt the 10K and tell Ryan that I probably have an even more "terrible" minute time... Keep it up. Maybe I'll catch up to you one day and we can go together.

Yay! I wanna run with you! I am doing a half in August and have to run 6 tomorrow (AGHHH!)so I can definitely run it for the Speedy Spaniard.

And don't worry about the speed. I'm hecka slow, but I figure if running slow makes it enjoyable so that I keep doing it, that's better than running fast, hating it, and quitting. Go Lauren!

I wasn't joking. I thought she had been running a minute faster than that...I suck.

1. No way you are slower than I am.
2. I also gave Stewart 2 ties for Father's Day. Costco?
3. That pudding video is hilarious.
4. Do you always tie a dish towel around him to contain his mess? That's clever but...I think my kids would get up and the whole thing would flip over. Does that happen?

Sorry...I had comments on all of your recent postings since I haven't been reading lately!

My mom did the dish towel thing when we were kids. It works pretty well and they learn the routine early on but we've had a few quick turns and bowls of cereal on the floor. But that's better than stained shirts every day.

My sister would tell you it's evil, though, since the dish towels were frequently "wet" when placed around her neck. I try to set them aside so no one will mistake it for a towel to dry their hands.

I am so proud of you. 1 minute faster per mile is amazing, not matter how slow it may be. That is a huge improvement and you should feel great. I am also impressed that you signed up for the Speedy Spaniard!!

I think its awesome you are running! I thoguht it was hard to run in S.F with all the wind! Don't worry about the speedy spanaird you'll do great. two years ago I "ran" it with my dad. he had legs cramps and we ended up being followed by a police escort down main street because we were last in! so no matter how you struggle just know I will have "run" it slower! your a winner to me! =)
