Sad Business

Last week a company called Attachmate officially purchased Novell.  As a result there were a large number of layoffs this week.  Ryan was not laid off for which we are very grateful but he did lose all of his bosses and half of his team.  Overall the estimated number of layoffs according to a news report was about 800 which is staggering.  Many people Ryan admires and looks up to will no longer be working with him.  For that reason it has been very sad week.

Lauren, that is so sad to hear about the layoffs at Novell. There are a lot of families suffering right now. I'm glad Ryan still has his job. I'm sure that is hard watching his friends and coworkers leave.

800, that's a chilling number and very difficult to live through no matter if you're staying or leaving. I'm so happy that Ryan had the fortune to become part of the new company. It is supportive of his value and talent and most importantly positive for the family.

Being aquired is hard enough without having layoffs. I'm thankful Ryan still has his job, although I am sure it is much more stressful. That is so many people. You can hope that for some families maybe this is the best thing that could happen to them. It was for Ken when he got laid off from Novell.
